“I missed something really important when I was late to practice,” Barbie told

Summer. “I don’t know if I can catch up by the next show.”

“You can do this. I know you can,” said Summer. “You just have to put in some

extra practice time.”

Soon it was time for the more experienced skaters. They performed difficult moves,

and some even ice danced in pairs.

One skater did a full Axel jump. Everyone applauded.

“Wow!” said Summer. “Why’s it called the Axel?”

“It’s named for Axel Paulsen,” said Barbie. “He was the first skater to perform that

kind of jump.”
